2006 Reunion
The first reunion of the USS Marvin Shields was held June 9th through the 11th in San Diego, California at the Radisson Hotel Harbor View. A total of 25 shipmates participated in one or more of the three planned events - a Friday evening welcome reception, the Saturday evening banquet, and the Sunday morning farewell gathering. 15 wives also were in attendance.
One commanding officer and six plank owners attended. Those in attendance represented the crew from pre-commissioning to 1988. Some came from across the country to share in this first reunion - one from North Carolina and another from Ohio.
During the banquet, those in attendance discussed the subjects of establishing an association and if we should have another reunion. By a vote of those in attendance it was decided to establish an association and to have a second reunion. With the establishment of the association, the selections of a President, Vice President, and Secretary/Treasurer were made.
It was also decided to have the second reunion in 2008. The date and location for the reunion was not determined.
From comments received, the first reunion was a success. Many reconnections were made and new relationships formed. All in attendance indicated an excitement about gathering together again in 2008.
